You’ve decided that tiling is the perfect option for your latest project, but how do you decide on which tiles are best suited to the room in question? We’ve got a number of ideas and considerations regarding the types of tiles commonly used for each room in question, to try and make the tile selection process easier.
Bathroom tiles
In smaller rooms such as utility rooms and small bathrooms, we’d generally recommend smaller tiles. Smaller tiles are also often useful in bathrooms as they can be fitted around fixtures and appliances more easily, with less tile cutting required. Some of our favourite bathroom tiles include marble or marble-inspired tiles, mosaic tiles or monochrome patterned tiles.
However, in some cases, the larger tiles are suited to bathrooms because fewer grout lines can create the illusion of more space in small rooms. In this case, why not opt for simple large-scale grey or bone tiles? Don’t forget that whichever you choose, bathroom tiles need to be non-porous and easy to clean.
Kitchen tiles
In larger rooms and open spaces, large tiles can be the perfect choice. Simple and understated, large tiles create uniform flooring and are becoming increasingly popular throughout the home, but particularly in open-plan kitchens, living rooms and more.
Our favourite options are large format granite tiles for a hardwearing contemporary feel, or lightweight porcelain tiles for a simple, country kitchen.
Hallway tiles
Hallways are often the first area of the home guests will see, so it’s important to get it right. Hallways need to be welcoming and attractive, yet hardwearing, as this is where the majority of footfall will pass each day.
Ceramic tiles are a great choice of hallway tile, as they are easy to clean and come in a range of different bright colours and patterns to create a mosaic-like feature. Alternatively use large format tiles in neutral colours, such as slate or natural stone to create a simple texture that is easy to clean.
Bedroom tiles
Although not very common, tiles in the bedroom are growing in popularity. The growth of tiles in bedrooms is partly due to the improvements in technology and increasing variety of tiles available – wood effect tiles are the perfect way to add rustic and traditional charm to your home whilst providing the ease of installation and cleanliness of a classic tiled floor.
Alternatively, large format simple gloss or matt tiles in neutral colours can provide the finishing touch to a minimalistic, contemporary-styled bedroom.
