Choosing tiles by room

When choosing the most suitable tiles for your latest project, it’s always worth considering the room in which the tiles are going to be laid.

Kitchen tiles

When sourcing tiles for your kitchen, it is important to consider the water resistance, hardwearing capabilities, and how easy they are to clean. The kitchen is one of the most popular rooms in the house, so needs floor tiles that are hardwearing and long lasting. Additionally, kitchens often produce moisture and humidity, so it is important to ensure that the kitchen tiles are resistant to moisture - non-porous tiles are generally best, for example porcelain and glass tiles. Glazed tiles make the perfect kitchen splashback, as they are quick and easy to wipe clean when they inevitably get splashed.

Bathroom tiles

Similarly to kitchens, bathroom tiles also need to have high moisture resistance and be easy to clean. Porcelain and glass tiles are again popular, as well as hardwearing and luxurious granite and marble. Whether you're looking to create a traditional bathroom with subtle wall and floor tiles, or looking to make a statement with contemporary design, we're confident that you'll find exactly what you need. Use large format tiles on walls and floors in wet rooms to make a statement, and remember that larger tiles help to give the appearance of a larger space.

Hallway tiles

Hardwearing features are important in high traffic areas such as the hallway, so for hallway tiles natural stone tiles, porcelain tiles, and other durable tiles are recommended. Don’t forget to look out for slip resistance too for extra safety. Choose hallway tiles with a classic chequerboard effect, or alternatively choose more contemporary metro tiles for a touch of modern life.

Fireplace tiles

Fireplace tiles are a perfect way to create a clear, stylish finish around the hearth. Hearth tiles need to be heat resistant due to their proximity to the fire, and we’d recommend installing them with a heat resistant adhesive for extra durability and longevity.

Choosing tiles by material

There is such a wide choice when looking at the different materials tiles are made from that it can be sometimes overwhelming.

Porcelain tiles & Ceramic tiles

The most popular tile choices are porcelain tiles and ceramic tiles, and these types of tile have been used for hundreds of years. Both porcelain and ceramic tiles have been manufactured through baking at high temperatures, and are available in a wide range of colours, sizes and designs, but porcelain tiles are generally more dense and water resistant, making them more suitable as bathroom tiles and kitchen tiles where water is a common feature.

Natural stone tiles

Another timeless choice of tile material is natural stone. Stone has been used for thousands of years in the home, and is a durable, hard and long lasting material that can be used to create a dramatic and contrasting design, or a more natural and tonal approach. Slate tiles are popular in hallways and utility rooms due to their stunning appearance and easy maintenance, or alternatively opt for marble for a luxurious and hardwearing floor or wall surface.

Glass tiles

Glass tiles are incredibly popular in the creation of feature pieces, splashbacks and mosaic wall and floor pieces. Glass tiles are available in a wide range of colours, sizes and shapes, and can really brighten up a room. Use glass tiles in the kitchen, in the bathroom and even as a border piece in the hallway or living room.
